    Integrated Algebra 1 Regents

    Dear Parents or Guardians:

At the onset of this school year, I would like to introduce myself as your and your child's Integrated Algebra 1 Regents Mathematics Teacher. My main concern will be to help each student achieve to the best of his/her ability.

To attain this goal will not only require my efforts, but also those of the students. It would be advisable for your son or daughter to regularly take home and study his/her notebook besides doing the regular assignments (given almost every day).

As I have told the class today, I am willing to be of help to them in any way I can. Generally, I leave it up to them to take the initiative in seeking help with their work, partly because it is so difficult to tell which of my many students are having problems with what topic.  New York State's new graduation requirements require every student to pass Integrated Algebra 1 Regents Examination in order to graduate from high school. This new requirement makes it extremely important that your son or daughter seeks help immediately when they are experiencing difficulty. If your son or daughter should complain about having trouble with math, please remind them to see me. I am available most days after school.

So that you may assist your child in performing well in math class, I would like you to be aware of my classroom policies and procedures. Your son or daughter has a packet that contains very important classroom rules and procedures. Please sign the attached page and have your child return it to me so that I can be sure each parent/guardian has had the opportunity to read it. The attached letter is also your son or daughter first homework assignment. Feel free to make any comments or suggestion. Also, the class requires that the student have the Texas Instruments TI-83 Plus calculator to use in class as well as on Integrated Algebra 1 Regents examination. This calculator can be purchased at the Iroquois High School Bookstore, Office Depot, OfficeMaxx, Kmart, Target, Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Ebay. The TI-83 Plus calculator will also be required for use in other mathematics and science courses taken throughout the students high school career.

If there are any questions, concerns, or problems, please feel free to call me at 652-3000 ext. 7133 to leave a message, and I will promptly return your call. My e-mail address is JThompson@iroquoisiscd.org. Thank you very much for giving this letter your attention.

    Sincerely,

    Mr. Thompson
