Danny's Helping Hands
"Everyone falls on hard times at one time or another. Our goal is to make things a little easier.”
-Colleen Edwards, founder
Danny’s Helping Hands is the same Helping Hands that has been helping families in the Iroquois Central School District since 2006. The name was changed in honor of founder Colleen Edwards' brother, who passed away in 2013. A graduate of Iroquois, Danny was always the underdog, despite being bullied in school. He was the first to stand up for someone and would give the shirt off his back. His giving and caring heart is the epitome of what this fund and program represents.
Danny’s Helping Hands was established as a resource for families and staff in the Iroquois district in need of short-term financial assistance. They have expanded to help those in Elma, Marilla, Wales and surrounding areas.
The Clothing Room, which is “free” to shop at by those in need, is open twice monthly. The Hygiene Cart is also available during open Clothing Room times.
Their programs include assistance with:
- Groceries
- Hygiene Supplies
- School supplies and school fees such as:
- SAT/ACT fees
- Cap & gown fees
- Uniform fees
- Other school related fees
- Utility bills
- Co-pays for medical services
- Rent
- Holiday gifts
- Food at the holidays
- Blessing Box at their location at 12029 Liberia Road, Marilla (available 24/7)
