Superintendent's Message 10/21/2024
Dear Iroquois Family,
Good afternoon, here is important information for the week of October 21st:
Board of Education
On October 28th the Board of Education will have a work session to discuss the results of the Building Conditions Survey. This survey is completed by the District architect and contains items from the Facilities Committee, which consists of teachers, administrators, staff, parents, and community members. This survey will guide the Board to determining the scope of the next capital project.
Homecoming
This year’s Homecoming was a great success!
We want to extend our thanks to everyone who contributed to making Homecoming special. To our students, your enthusiasm and participation made the week exciting and fun. To our staff, your dedication and planning ensured everything ran smoothly. And to our parents, your continued support—whether through volunteering, donations, or simply cheering on our students—made all the difference. Go Red Hawks!
Family Support Center
A reminder to complete the survey regarding our new Family Support Center. We need the help of our Iroquois community, staff and students in grades 5-12. Your input will guide us in assessing the needs of our families, so we can better serve you.
We're excited to embark on this new chapter and are counting on your valuable feedback! Please complete the survey by this Friday October 25th. Here’s the link: SURVEY.
For Parents to Know
As Halloween approaches our SROs suggest the following safety tips:
Costume Safety
Before Halloween arrives, be sure to choose a costume that won't cause safety hazards.
● All costumes, wigs and accessories should be fire-resistant
● If children are allowed out after dark, fasten reflective tape to their costumes and bags, or give them glow sticks
● Select nontoxic Halloween makeup instead of masks because masks can obscure vision; always test makeup in a small area first to see if any irritation develops
● Remove all makeup before children go to bed to prevent skin and eye irritation
When Trick or Treating
● A responsible adult should accompany young children on the neighborhood rounds
● If your older children are going alone, plan and review a route acceptable to you
● Agree on a specific time children should return home
● Teach your children never to enter a stranger's home or car
● Instruct children to travel only in familiar, well-lit areas and stick with their friends
● Tell your children not to eat any treats until they return home, and take care to avoid any food allergies.
● Inspect all candy
● Have children take a phone with the location of device turned on. Remind them of the dangers of distracted texting while walking in the streets, sidewalks, or yards.
Safety Tips for Motorists
● Watch for children walking on roadways, medians and curbs
● Enter and exit driveways and alleys carefully
● At twilight and later in the evening, watch for children in dark clothing
● Discourage new, inexperienced drivers from driving on Halloween
● Reduce your speed
● No distracted driving. Please put your cell phones down
