Dear Iroquois Family,
Good afternoon, here is important information for the week of October 14th.
Capital Project
On November 18th from 7:30 AM to 9:00 PM, a vote will be held for our next Capital Project. The vote will take place at the Intermediate Gymnasium.
The project will be focused on keeping students warm and dry by replacing our oldest heating systems and updating aging roofs. Your vote is important!!

Board of Education
The Board of Education will meet this Wednesday at 7:00 PM in the Middle School. The presentation to Board the Board this month will be centered on the students’ results at the elementary level. The Board will also be hearing about the information available to the public for the upcoming Capital project vote on November 18th. If you are unavailable to attend in person, the meetings are always broadcast live on the District website.
This week is Homecoming. Good luck to the athletes and I hope all the students have an exciting and enjoyable week.
For Parents to Know
Kinship Support Group Program for Grandparents and Caregivers
A kinship caregiver is a grandparent, relative, or family member who are full time caregivers of children. This upcoming fall, Iroquois CSD partnered with Alden CSD and the Family Help Center to build a kinship support group for grandparents and caregivers. This program will provide kinship caregivers a space to learn more about available benefits and services such as stipends, food and clothing resources, childcare, and legal rights. Danny’s Helping Hands
Danny's Helping Hands is a non-profit organization that assists those who are facing temporary financial challenges in the Elma, Marilla, Wales, East Aurora and surrounding areas. We offer various programs, services and resources, including a free Clothing Room and Community Pantry box; more information can be found at www.dannyshelpinghands.org.
For those who need assistance with Thanksgiving Meals this year, you can fill out a form to receive items for a Thanksgiving Meal, and we also offer a Holiday Gifts Program for children of families in the area. To apply for these programs, please visit our website. We ask that you apply by 11/15. We look forward to serving those in our community this holiday season.

Halloween Safety Guide
Costume Safety
· • Choose costumes, wigs, and accessories that are fire-resistant.
· • If children are out after dark, add reflective tape to costumes or treat bags, or give them glow sticks or flashlights.
· • Use nontoxic makeup instead of masks, which can block vision. Always test makeup in a small area first to check for skin irritation.
· • Remove all makeup before bedtime to prevent eye or skin irritation.
· • Avoid long costumes that could cause trips or falls. Ensure shoes fit properly.
Trick-or-Treat Safety
· • Young children should always be accompanied by a trusted adult.
· • For older students, plan and review a safe route and agree on a set return time.
· • Travel in groups and only visit well-lit homes. Never enter a stranger’s house or vehicle.
· • Stay on sidewalks whenever possible. If no sidewalk is available, walk facing traffic and stay to the far edge of the road.
· • Always look both ways before crossing streets and use designated crosswalks.
· • Carry a flashlight or use a cell phone flashlight to stay visible.
· • Never run from house to house—walk safely and stay alert.
· • Don’t eat treats until they have been checked by an adult. Eat only factory-wrapped candy and avoid homemade treats.
· • Students with food allergies should check all labels carefully before eating.
· • Avoid open flames or lit decorations; choose flame-resistant materials for costumes.
Technology and Communication
· • Children with phones should keep their location services turned on.
· • Remind students not to text or use devices while crossing streets or walking near traffic.
· • Parents should ensure phones are fully charged and set on silent or vibrate to avoid distractions during trick-or-treating.
Motorist Safety
· • Slow down and be alert for children walking on roadways, medians, and curbs.
· • Use extra caution when turning, entering, or exiting driveways.
· • Be especially watchful for children in dark clothing after sunset.
· • Discourage inexperienced teen drivers from driving on Halloween night.
· • Avoid distracted driving—keep phones and other devices put away.
Additional School & Community Safety Tips
· • Schools may host trunk-or-treats or other supervised events—these are safer alternatives for younger students.
· • Encourage respectful behavior: no pranks, vandalism, or unsafe dares.
· • Report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement or school officials immediately.
· • Reinforce kindness and inclusion—Halloween should be fun for everyone.
