2/27/2023 Superintendent's Message
Dear Iroquois Family,
Good afternoon, here is important information for the week of February 27th.
Strategic Plan
One important part of the Strategic Plan is the development of a comprehensive long-range facilities development and maintenance plan. The District is re-forming the Facilities Committee to evaluate our student, staff and community infrastructure requirements. The findings of this committee will help shape future capital projects in our District. We plan to start meeting in March and complete our work by May.
To facilitate interaction, the meetings will be in-person, usually in the Middle School STEM room. The typical time will be 4:00 to 5:30 pm.
If you are interested in becoming a member of the Facilities Committee, please submit your name to the District using the following link: https://www.iroquoiscsd.org/site/Default.aspx?PageID=11304
Fun for All
The Annual District Staff v. Staff basketball game is on March 9th at 7 pm in the High School Main Gym. $2.00 admission/donation is to benefit the Iroquois Faculty Association. There will be a basket raffle and half-time games for the elementary students.
Marilla Primary
Marilla Primary has been participating in the Kids Heart Challenge Program which raises money for the American Heart Association for the last 13 years. This year the school set a record for the most money raised. They raised an impressive $21,864.43. We are so proud of all the students and families of Marilla Primary for being a part of an amazing program that helps others.
High School
The High School Drama Club will be performing The Sponge Bob Musical. Performances are on March 16th, 17th, and 18th. Tickets will be available Monday, March 6th starting at 9 am. The following link will take you directly to the website for purchasing tickets: https://www.iroquoiscsd.org/Page/11507
This is going to be a spectacular show.
For Parents to Know
The main campus, Elma Primary and Marilla Primary all receive their water from the Erie County Water Authority. The statement below is from the Water Authority addressing any concerns you may have regarding the quality of water in relationship to the unfortunate train accident in Ohio. Please also remember that we are in a different watershed area than Ohio.
In conjunction with the Erie County Health Department and County Executive Mark Poloncarz, last week the Erie County Water Authority (ECWA) began daily sampling and testing of its source water (Lake Erie and the Niagara River) and treated water supplies for chemicals involved in the East Palestine, Ohio train derailment, including vinyl chloride. This testing is being completed to provide additional assurance to our customers that no evidence exists of the migration of these chemicals to our water system.
All testing results for these chemicals through Monday, February 20th, have shown "NON-DETECTED" in ECWA's source water and treated water supplies.
ECWA has a nationally recognized drinking water quality program that monitors its treated water supply 365 days a year to assure customers that their drinking water is very safe and of high quality. ECWA will continue to work with the County Executive and the county health department in testing its source and treated water supplies for the foreseeable future as it monitors the ongoing situation related to this unfortunate accident in Ohio.
Iroquois Lunch Program Information
The final stage of the Mass Notification implementation process is the weekly low lunch balance reminder. Beginning on March 14th, once per week on Tuesday morning, a courtesy text message and email will be sent to parents/guardians when their student’s lunch balance falls below $2.00. Exact account balances will not be indicated. Please keep in mind that you will still receive the notification even if your family participates in the free/reduced lunch program as students may have money on account to purchase extra treats and snacks beyond the lunch provided. The process to add money to your student(s) account has not changed. You may send money directly to your student’s school or if you have a mySchoolBucks account, you can replenish your account from there. If you would like more information about mySchoolBucks just click on the link below to be redirected to the Food Service section of the Iroquois website:
