Driver Ed Certificates of Completion

As of February 2026, the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles has discontinued the issuance of paper MV-285 Driver Education Certificates of Completion and is transitioning to an Electronic Driver’s Ed Certificate. Confirmation of successful completion of the course will be submitted to the DMV Driver’s Ed Online Portal by Iroquois Central School within 24 hours of completion of the course. Once submitted, an Electronic Driver Ed Certificate will automatically be added to your DMV record. Please do NOT attempt to schedule a road test with the DMV until after the 24-hour window to allow Iroquois Central School time to process the appropriate documentation through the DMV Driver’s Ed Online Portal. To schedule a Road Test, you will only need to enter the NYS DMV ID number found on your permit and your birthdate. When requested for a certificate number just enter your NYS DMV ID number again and course completion date as indicated in the note you received at the conclusion of your course. Be sure to check the DMV website for details on how to schedule and plan for your road test.

INSURANCE REDUCTION INFORMATION: The DMV Driver’s Ed Online Portal will generate a “proof of completion” letter for each student that has successfully passed/completed the course. This letter will be emailed to parents from the Driver Ed Coordinator at Iroquois Central School.  The letter is ONLY for Insurance Providers as proof of successful completion of a NYS-DTSE approved Driver Education Program for the application of any appropriate insurance discounts. The letter will state you need to bring it with you to your road test and that is NOT correct. This requirement ONLY applies to students issued paper MV-285 Certificates of Completion prior to February 2026.  

NOTE: The DMV is in the process of updating their website to reflect the new procedures however the majority of "active" certificates are still in paper format and their website still reflects those procedures.
