Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

Q: Do I have to be there every day?
A: YES! The NYS Department of Education (NYSED) and the NYS Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) require completion of a minimum of 48 hours of instruction and attendance is mandatory. Please review the Iroquois Attendance Policy posted on the Driver Ed page of the website.

Q: Do I get my money back if I withdraw?
A: Full Refunds (may take up to three weeks to process) are allowed prior to the start of the program and must be made by the designated cancelation date to qualify. Registrations made online with a credit card will incur a $17.00 cancelation fee. Once the course has begun there are NO refunds regardless of the reason. Please review the Iroquois Attendance Policy posted on the Driver ED page of the website for complete details.

Q: Do I get a blue card?
A: The senior driver license is sometimes casually referred to as a “blue” card. Students that have completed a NYS certified Driver Education program may be issued a new senior license at 17 which allows for fewer driving restrictions. Please refer to the DMV website for details.

Q: I really wanted a different session/time than what you have available. Do you have a wait list?
A: Yes. Many times, however, people will not cancel until the week prior to the start of the program so there are no guarantees that a spot will open up.

Q: I don’t have my permit yet, but can I still register now?
A: Yes, you can. However, you must be 16 and hold a valid learners permit to attend driver education (NO exceptions). Also keep in mind the readiness and confidence level of your student. It may not be in their best interest if they have not had enough practice time behind the wheel before beginning an in-car instructional setting with 3 other students.

Q: We are not district residents; can my child still take Driver Ed?
A: Due to limited capacity, non-district residents are not permitted to register.

Q: Can you “hold” a spot for me by phone and I will mail you the form?
A: Unfortunately, registration is on a first come first serve basis. Registration is online, by mail or in person only.
